Mushroom cacao tastes great in a mug, but that is just the start. Here are four tried-and-tested recipes with Ollywell Mushroom Cacao: hot, cold and by the spoonful. Each uses one serving (8 g), the recommended daily amount.

1. Creamy mushroom cacao latte

A classic for a slow morning or an afternoon break. Time: 5 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 8 g Mushroom Cacao (2 level teaspoons)
  • 200 ml barista oat milk
  • a pinch of cinnamon

Method: Heat the milk to about 70°C. Add the cacao and froth with a milk frother for 20–30 seconds. Sprinkle with cinnamon.

2. Mushroom cacao overnight oats

A breakfast that makes itself. Time: 5 minutes the night before.

Ingredients:

  • 50 g rolled oats
  • 8 g Mushroom Cacao
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 150 ml milk or plant-based drink
  • 2 tablespoons natural yoghurt
  • a handful of raspberries or blueberries

Method: Mix the oats, cacao, chia, milk and yoghurt in a jar. Refrigerate overnight. Add the fruit in the morning. The date sugar in the cacao is usually enough, so there is no need to add sweetener.

3. Cacao banana smoothie

A quick drinkable breakfast or post-workout snack. Time: 3 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe banana (frozen works best)
  • 8 g Mushroom Cacao
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter
  • 250 ml milk or almond drink

Method: Blend everything until smooth. If the banana was not frozen, add a few ice cubes.

4. Iced mushroom cacao

A refreshing alternative to iced coffee. Time: 4 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 8 g Mushroom Cacao
  • 30 ml hot water or milk
  • 170 ml cold milk
  • ice

Method: Dissolve the cacao in the hot liquid so there are no lumps. Pour over ice and top up with cold milk.

Tips for the best-tasting mushroom cacao

  • Don’t boil it. Milk at 60–70°C is enough and keeps the flavour better.
  • Use a frother. A small handheld frother gives a creamy texture with no lumps.
  • Choose milk with some fat. Barista oat milk, coconut milk or whole dairy milk bring out the cacao flavour.
  • One serving a day. Every recipe above uses exactly the amount on the label.
